Job Description

The Farm Mechanic is responsible for maintaining, diagnosing, and repairing farm equipment and vehicles to ensure safe, reliable, and efficient operation. This role supports daily farming activities by minimizing downtime and keeping machinery in peak working condition throughout the growing and harvest seasons.

Key Responsibilities

• Perform routine maintenance, inspections, and preventative service on farm equipment, including tractors, combines, sprayers, trucks, and implements

• Diagnose mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic issues and complete timely repairs

• Troubleshoot engine, drivetrain, brake, steering, and hydraulic systems

• Maintain accurate service and repair records

• Weld, fabricate, and modify equipment as needed

• Prepare equipment for seasonal use and assist with in-season breakdowns

• Ensure all equipment meets safety standards and operating requirements

• Order parts and supplies as needed and maintain an organized shop

• Assist with equipment setup, calibration, and adjustments

• Communicate repair needs, timelines, and recommendations to Shop and Equipment Lead

• Support other farm operations as needed during peak workload periods

Qualifications

• Previous experience as a farm mechanic, diesel mechanic, or heavy equipment mechanic preferred

• Strong knowledge of diesel engines, hydraulics, electrical systems, and agricultural equipment

• Ability to diagnose and repair equipment independently

• Welding and fabrication experience a plus

• Basic computer or record-keeping skills

• Valid driver’s license (CDL preferred but not required)

• Ability to work extended hours during peak seasons

Work Environment

• Farm shop and field-based work

• Seasonal workload fluctuations, including long hours during planting and harvest
